In 2005, Giorgi Zubitashvili received a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Sport from the Georgian State Academy of Physical Education and Sport.
In 2007, he completed a Master’s degree at the same academy.
From 2009 to 2012, he studied in the doctoral program at Ilia State University, Faculty of Science and Arts. His dissertation was dedicated to the study of parameters of sports functioning in judokas. He was awarded an academic degree of Doctor of Sport Science with the highest distinction – Summa Cum Laude.
From 2005 to 2007, Giorgi Zubitashvili worked as a judo coach at the Wrestling Department of the Sports Academy.
From 2007 to 2018, he worked at Ilia State University as an invited lecturer and held administrative positions, including Sports Coordinator, Senior Specialist, and Assistant to the Dean.
Since 2013, he has been teaching at the Georgian State Teaching University of Physical Education and Sport as a Full Professor.
Since 2017, he has been the head of undergraduate and graduate programs, and since 2018, the Head of the Department of Combat Sports.
Since 2020, he has been leading the university’s Scientific-Research Office. He is associated with the development of educational programs, promotion of student research activities, and strengthening of international cooperation.
Giorgi Zubitashvili teaches at both bachelor’s and master’s levels. For bachelor’s students, he lectures on Theory and Basics of Judo Training, and for master’s students – Theory of Sports Training and Methodology of Scientific Research Writing.
Giorgi Zubitashvili is the author of numerous scientific works. He has published dozens of articles, including 8 in international journals indexed in Scopus and EBSCO databases.
In 2018, he published the textbook Theory and Methodology of Judo (500 pages). He also translated the Judo Refereeing Rules Manual from English into Georgian and was the editor of five collections of scientific conference materials.
He participated in academic mobility through the Erasmus+ program and conducted masterclasses at sports universities in Lithuania and Bulgaria. He holds several professional certificates, including confirmation of English language proficiency and teaching, as well as the Thinking Academy course certificate AI in Practice.
In the field of sport, Giorgi Zubitashvili was involved in Georgian wrestling for years, is a two-time champion of Georgia, and holds the title of Master of Sport. He worked as a national judo referee for 11 years and has been engaged in Georgian wrestling refereeing for 20 years.
He is an expert in quality assurance in higher education and the Chair of the Sports Sectoral Council, under whose leadership the Sectoral Characteristics of Sport were developed in 2023.
